CHRISTIANITY 21 AT MORLAN

Re-interpreting the essentials of Christianity for the current era

Have you had enough of religious chatter? Have you turned your back on the church and chapel? Perhaps you never got close to all that religious stuff? But do you still think that there’s more to life than money, fame, success, and even culture? More than just ‘stuff’?

Over the winter months, a small group of people who want to question and challenge their faith have been meeting at Morlan with the aim of trying to make sense of their spiritual life in the twenty first century (hence Christianity 21).

They have considered two questions: “Where am I today on my spiritual journey?” and, when reading key pieces of the Bible: “How do I make sense of this text today?

The Christianity 21 at Morlan meetings provide a secure place where doubts, convictions, hopes and fears can be expressed honestly and openly. There are no arguments, rather the conversations of pilgrims – and there is no such thing as a stupid question! The only rule is to listen with respect and not to judge and, in return, we will offer what we have found to be helpful to us.

We are keen to avoid the same old fruitless arguments between those who accept the Bible literally and those who milk every meaning and authority from it. Interpretation in order to find a relevant meaning is our aim.

Many of us struggle with the language and ceremony of traditional ‘religion’, but we have a hunger to reconstruct (reform) and rejuvenate not only Christian thinking, but the way we live and execute it as well.

A programme has been prepared for Autumn 2011, details of which can be found on the Diary of Events  – however, it should be noted that all these meetings will be held through the medium of Welsh.
